Default UK food shops in NZ? (especially Wellington)

Just wondering if anyone in Wellington has heard of one, or if one is opening sometime?

And there are 2 in AKL and 1 in Chch right? Any others around the country?

    Hey there James,

there are actually 3 UK Foods in AKL. 1 in Browns Bay, 1 in Orewa and another in Whangaparaoa. The one in Whangaparaoa sells liquor and beers. So I get my order in early for my alcohol. They get deliveries about every 6 - 12 weeks and only get a few of each bottle.

Sorry don't know if there are any in Wellington, but I'll ask next time I'm in and let you know.

Carman, wouldn't you be more concerned with where to get grits?

That is such a dreadful sounding word. The sound of it alone puts me off wanting to try it although I'm sure it would taste quite delightful. I looked it up in the dictionery and the explanation sounds a bit like polenta or cornmeal. Does it form a large part of the American diet then? I would imagine it's quite bland without something to spice it up a bit.

Grits are a Southern thing, and yes, I do believe they are rather like cornmeal, or even farina (Cream of Wheat). Not that I've had them, but I hear they are a common side dish at breakfast. Recently someone mentioned mixing them with eggs and syrup - not quite the combo I thought of! I'd try them with butter and perhaps brown sugar.

Grits are wonderful with sugar and butter. I have known of people to mix everything with it....I guess kind of a egg, bacon, buscuit soup. They are good plain also...just kind of like eating plain rice. :icon_neutral:

    Grits are great! :icon_biggrin:

It was more the word 'grits' that I took a dislike to. Doesn't sound a foody type of word. In the UK 'grit' is a heap of small rough stones, coarse dirt or ground rock, used for all sorts of purposes.

Yuck. I hate grits. I could go on for a while about this, but I won't. Yuck :icon_twisted:

So......anyone hear of a Welly UK shop? Or an American food shop, somehow I doubt there is one in the country.
