Hi there,
Does anybody know how long it takes in the Auckland area to get a work permit if I have a job offer which says I can start working as soon as possible? Are two weeks likely?
Many Thanks, Anita

Hi Anita,
Temporary entry permits/visas
If you
supply us with all the required documents at the time you submit your application for a temporary permit or visa, and
there are no questions about your medical status that require an opinion by a Medical Assessor, then
you can expect us to meet the following timeliness standards:
Work permit/visa
We will decide:
75% within 20 days
95% within 45 days
99% within 60 days
Near the bottom of the page on here. Don't know if it will be much help as you now have to decide whether you are in the 75%, 95% or 99% group.![]()

We applied for a temp wrok permit at Wellington branch.
OH submitted it with his job offer letter complete with start date. We were hoping on only a couple of weeks- we are now on 3 weeks and have heard absolutely nothing.
Needless to say OH start date has now been and gone and he has had to go in voluntarily (unpaid) so he could get the handover time with the guy who was leaving.

So you flew to NZ, THEN applied? wow ... and I'm doing this all from the states .. if I can just get up and move now.. which i can.. not many belongings at ALL..
Could I do the same?
How long are you allowed to stay in NZ if just "visiting"?
long enough for the processing to go on?
I am using BUNAC USA , (but they say you have to be IN the USA at the time of application ... which I am)..
Very interesting.
I have a friend in NZ I can stay with for up to 3 months.
Being from the UK we get 6months on visit visa.
We sold up in the UK and came over with no jobs etc lined up. It took almost 4 months for my OH to get a job offer. We have about 8 weeks left on our visit visa now so hoping the PR comes through before it runs out.
There are plenty of people who come to NZ first and then apply for their relevent visas/permits, on the other hand there are plenty who prefer to get things sorted first- just in case.

do you know where i can find out about how long USA citizens get in NZ for visit visas?
what were the charges you payed for the visit visa/ processes involved?
do you know how long you can stay WITHOUT a visit visa?
sorry to derail thread.. but i need to know this info... should i PM it?
it may be relevant to the origonal poster.
thanks
For Americans it is 3 months , but that can be extended for another 3 months if required.

hi,
I have been to NZ for an intership this year and just built up some connections to some companies during I was there. At the moment I am back in Austria because I had to finish my BA here. Now I have my BA and I applied for a 6 month visitor visa to go back to NZ in september.
I had no definitive job offer so far and so I was not able to apply for a work visa from Austria in advance.
So I just thought I will go as a visitor and if there are any offers I have 6 month time to apply for a work permit when I am in the NZ then or even 12 because you can extend the visitor visa up to a maximum of 12 month, I think also US citizen can do that! But if not I also could apply for the partnership work permit because my partner is A New Zealander. That s my story
The only concerning thing is the money isse, without work no money- so in my case I hope I will find work soon because longer then 4-5 month without salary is not really fine
Greetings, Anita
